Simple ways to show your veins some love

Eat fiber-rich foods

Not only do fiber-rich foods improve cholesterol levels, but they can prevent plaque build-up and clotting. Incorporate more fruits, vegetables and whole grains into your diet. Foods that have omega-3 fatty acids help build up healthy veins.

Get moving

Find yourself in a sedentary routine due to staying in more and going out less? A sedentary lifestyle is bad for your overall health and especially bad for your veins. Even low-impact activities like walking and swimming can greatly improve blood circulation and strengthen your veins.

Drink lots of water

Drinking water and staying hydrated is key to good overall health but it’s important to drink plenty of water to dilute your blood and prevent clotting. Aim for eight glasses of water a day.

Don’t smoke

It’s no secret that smoking is not good for your overall health, but it’s especially bad for your cardiovascular system. Smoking thickens your blood and can cause plaque build-up in your arteries.

Wear compression stockings

Talk to your doctor about compression stockings and whether they would be right for you. These are proven to help blood flow and prevent inflammation from poor blood circulation. If you are pregnant or spend long hours in the same position sitting or standing, you may benefit greatly from compression stockings.

See your doctor

If you are feeling cramps or pain in your legs, have varicose veins or spider veins or showing other signs of vein disease, it’s important to see a vein specialist who can diagnose your condition and prescribe the right treatment or procedure to help you. Vein disease won’t go away on its own.
