The Handsome Truth About Getting Rid of Veins On Your Hands

Vein Disease Houston TXDo you feel like the more you look down at your hands, the less you recognize them? Does it seem like that out of every part of your body, your hands are showing the most signs of age? If so, then you are certainly not alone. As you age, the skin on your hands starts to thin which can make them look like they have more veins on them than you remember. If you feel like your hands are starting to become a source of self-consciousness for you, then it may be time to take things into your own hands (literally) and get rid of those veins. But how?

Sclerotherapy: This treatment is popular for most types of veins— including hand veins. To start out, your doctor will inject a sclerosing foam medication into the veins in the hands; this medication works by irritating and scarring the treated veins which cause them to close down. After your veins have closed down, your body will naturally react by absorbing those veins and directing the blood flow to healthy veins. One of the unique benefits of sclerotherapy is that there is no downtime or recovery necessary. The only thing that your doctor may recommend is that you wear a compression wrap on your hand for a few days.

Microphlebectomy: This type of treatment involves removing veins section by section and is done by creating a series of tiny holes. Once the veins and surrounding tissues have been numbed, your doctor will make tiny punctures in a line down the targeted vein. Afterward, he will then go back with a hook-like instrument through the tiny holes to pull out pieces of the vein; this process is repeated until every part of the vein has been removed. Similar to sclerotherapy, a microphlebectomy doesn’t require any stitches or downtime.

The best way for you to determine what treatment is best for you is to schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Kapusta at our Houston office and give us a call at 713.349.8346.
