How to Get Rid of Large Varicose Veins

Ambulatory Phlebectomy (AP) Houston TXIf there’s one thing to know about varicose veins, it should be how to get rid of them. As a condition that is primarily prevalent in females, varicose veins can not only be unsightly, but they can also be painful as well. Whether you have just started to suffer from varicose veins or if you have been suffering from them for years, we at Vein Center Houston, understand just how frustrating and painful they can be.

Typically when a patient has varicose veins, we recommend simple changes like losing weight, exercising more, and even wearing compression stockings. If those suggestions don’t work, however, then we take a closer look at some of your other options like sclerotherapy, In patients who have large varicose veins, we offer a different treatment called an ambulatory phlebectomy or AP.

What’s An Ambulatory Phlebectomy?

This minimally invasive surgery can either be done on its own or can be done in conjunction with Saphenous Vein Closure or sclerotherapy. By opening the skin and removing the varicose veins, patients can find immediate relief from their varicose veins. During this procedure, we will use a local anesthetic to numb the area; then we will make small incisions to access the veins and remove them. After the procedure, small strips are used to close up the incisions.

What is Recovery Like?

Because an ambulatory phlebectomy is considered to be a non-invasive surgery, recovery isn’t extensive. In fact, we encourage our patients to start walking immediately after the procedure. To make sure you are healing and recovering properly, we will have you come back into our office the next day to be briefly examined.

Suffering from large, oversized varicose veins can make you never want to show off your legs again, and they can be quite painful.
