Frequently Asked Questions

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are small, dilated veins, filled with blood, which makes them visible through the skin. Sometimes they appear like thin lines. On occasion, they resemble a spider's web. They may be red or blue.

How are spider veins treated?

Spider veins may be treated with a variety of techniques. SCLEROTHERAPY is the most common treatment. The spider veins are injected with a solution, which causes an irritation of the lining of the vein and subsequent disappearance. In one session, several veins may be injected.

The fading of the veins is gradual and the complete disappearance may take several weeks. Often, total resolution may be accomplished.

Although the treated veins fade, other veins may develop, requiring additional treatment.

LASER elimination of spider veins is another treatment. In this case, Laser energy is administered to the skin. The energy is absorbed by the blood in the vein, and the irritation causes the vein to close. Often, Sclerotherapy and Laser ablation are used to achieve complete resolution.

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins are large, dilated veins, which contain a large amount of blood and therefore raise the skin over them. These veins are diseased and allow blood to reverse its flow, become stagnant and cause a variety of symptoms such as pain, swelling, burning, etc. These veins may appear as ropes, balloons or both.

How are varicose veins treated?

A variety of techniques are available to treat varicose veins. LASER ABLATION is the most common treatment. Under local anesthesia, using modern guiding equipment, a thin fiber is inserted in the vein, and energy is applied which causes the closure of the source of the varicosities. The reversal of blood flow is eliminated.

MICRO-PHLEBECTOMY

is a contemporary procedure which involves the selective removal of vein clusters. Using local anesthesia, through a needle size incision, the veins are removed. The incisions are so small that they often do not require closure. Often, Laser ablation and Mini-phlebectomy are combined to achieve satisfactory results. Sclerotherapy may be then used to treat residual veins.

Less often, the diseased veins may require ligation, stripping or both.

Depending on the symptoms and the underlying problem a variety of techniques are available. Sometimes, several techniques are used in combination to achieve the desired results. We develop a plan, specifically tailored to treat your problem.

Do Insurance companies cover the costs of treatment?

After our initial evaluation, we will determine whether the symptoms, the underlying problem and the proposed treatment are “medically necessary” or cosmetic in nature.
Cosmetic procedures are not usually covered by Insurance plans. In this case, you will be provided with a detailed estimate of charges. For these procedures, payment is expected at the time of service.

If your condition is considered “medically necessary”, the treatment may be covered, depending on the carrier’s review process. The company may require photographs, vascular laboratory reports, pre-determination letters, etc. A knowledgeable staff member will discuss the reimbursement issues and provide you with a detailed estimate of charges.

Payment plans

For your convenience we accept personal checks, cash, MasterCard, VISA, American Express, and Discover Card. We may be able to assist you with financing the treatment.
